What a great happy birthday. It seems that 49 is a year we watch our youths pass away and the mysteries of the second stage of life looms ahead. Hey, that's when the fun begins. A wealth of past failures and trials to pull wisdom from. And remember to count those successes too. They're in there somewhere.
Great point, Sue. We go through the trails and tribulations and then learn from them, so that, hopefully, our children won't have to. Thank you for reading.
You know, I once wandered off into the desert with my kid, but that's a story for another day. You are right, primalbeet, they keep us in check and we are blessed to have them. Thanks for reading.
Oh this is a GREAT story! Like the music behind it, it not only encourages the dreamer to dream on, it encouraged one to press on when things go dreary and life seems full of endless bad jokes and cruel turns of fortune. I’m not a sports person by any measure though I do love music and I love that particular song with all my heart. And yet, before reading this, I never thought of it as cheering on the dreamer that sometimes gets too trapped in reality to believe much in dream power. Thanks for the great story but even more for the reminder to hear the lyrics that guard our lives with open ears and open hearts. Wonderful work, sir.
Thank you for reading, Karen, and especially for the nice comments. I also love music and I love soccer. My son played and I fell in love with the sport. Dream On is one of those songs that sticks with you. We always tell the young folks in our lives to dream big, sometimes, I think maybe, we’re the ones that need a nudge or two. You’re Never Too Old To Dream.
When you get old—like me—you still sometimes dream big dreams. Too often what you lack is the energy to pursue the dream. One of the reasons I’ve always loved that song is the incredible energy they bring to it. Put it together with the actual message and it just might be enough to get me off my butt and moving forward. Thanks again.

Thank you for writing it. It was a great read.
It's the kids that keep us from wandering off into the desert. Bless them. Great story.
